The Sensor Swarm and Understanding The Virtual Memory

Join us to learn how to create your own temperature monitoring sensors 🌡️ and to talk about Virtual Memory – the basics and advanced topics. RSVP here to save your front row spot on February 17, starting at 18:30!

About the event

We’ll take you through the challenges you’ll face when trying to deploy a large scale number of IoT sensors throughout a company’s working environment. From building, programming, and securing the devices, there are a lot of interesting details to work out for a successful long-term solution.

There are a few systems out there that do not use the benefits of the Virtual Memory, like some embedded systems which do not need isolation between applications, but for those that do use the Virtual Memory, the performance of the applications might be impacted by the overhead introduced by it. The second talk will tackle the basic concepts and a few advanced topics of the Virtual Memory.

About the speakers

Radu Andritoiu is a Software Engineer that’s been with Ixia for almost three years now. Radu’s work on multi-layered software applications for Ixia Network Packet Brokers has been remarkable. He’s got tech skills that span across Java, C and C++, and he’s also implemented a few Linux kernel modules.

Alexandru Ghita is a Senior Software Engineer that has been with Ixia for almost 10 years now. He started with .NET C# and WPF on desktop applications, both UI and middleware. Afterwards he moved to web applications on Linux, using Java (Jetty, Guice, etc.) and Sencha ExtJS. Alex is also familiar with databases, having worked for some projects with PostgreSQL and ElasticSearch. When he has a few hours to spare, he’s very much into gaming, electronics and DIY.

Cosmin Chenaru is a senior programmer and has been with Ixia for eight years, but not as contiguous as the Virtual Memory is. After two years of writing software for embedded systems, he realized that Networking and Virtualization is his true love. His passions include anything electronic with at least one transistor in it, playing video games and watching old movies with his kids (movies like The Terminator, Men In Black).

Agile – mindset & entrepreneurial advantage with Adi Sita

Tech Startup School proposes a new challenging meetup. This time we turn to entrepreneurship, agile and how the two connect for creating successful business changes. RSVP here to save your front row spot on February 12, starting at 18:30!

About the event

Many times, entrepreneurship implies fear. Which is normal, considering today’s volatile business environment. Agile shifts fear into excitement, creating a business culture where change is welcomed. How? Through a particular mindset that supports the importance of fast adaptation more than a plan, and people more than processes.

We will talk about change and mindset, about productivity, adaptability, and efficiency. We will focus on people who manage processes. All in an interactive way, as entrepreneurship involves courage and a bunch of different ideas and answers to problems, that we can all learn from.

About the speaker

Adrian has over 15 years of experience in IT development, and he is currently focusing on learning as well: eLearning and Agile trainings. The human factor is always central to his actions, so he learned a lot from interacting with various people, being happy to return the favour while teaching.

Event agenda

  • 18:30 – 18:45 – Welcome & registration

The Research Loop with Andrei Urse and Stefan Condurachi

We are starting the new year with a new UX Design for Startups meetup and with a subject that is very important for any business and for all UX-ers: research, which helps to understand users, business content and much more! RSVP here to save your front row spot on February 6, starting at 18:30!

About the event

Andrei Urse and Stefan Condurachi (Softvision Cognizant), experienced and know-how UX-ers will show us what they call The Research Loop:

  1. Decisions involving stakeholders:

– Decision making + administrative work

– Defining success in terms of objectives (what we want)

– Selecting the research type and budgeting – Breaking myths

  1. Planning and research implementation:

– Research process by research type: selecting participants, facilitating interviews/usability testing, questionnaires.

  1. Data analysis:

– Data triangulation, data mapping from multiple sources

– Discovering tendencies, trends, new information (insights) from data analysis

– How to avoid including your own biases into data interpretation

– Simplifying data into “pills”/fragments that are easy to understand and explain to the rest of the team & stakeholders

  1. Presenting discoveries:

– Communicating discoveries to the team

– Data driven pitching – data stories -> how to emphasise opportunities

– What’s next?

About the guests

Andrei thinks that to be a User Experience Designer now, more than ever, means that you have a large responsibility towards people that you design for. Our decisions can influence user experience in totally unexpected ways, which can lead to both wanted or unwanted consequences. He thinks that research is the most powerful and accessible tool that a User Experience Designer has at his disposal to discover and anticipate the real needs of users.

Stefan Condurachi has varied experiences as a UX Designer, from a company and startup perspective, but also as a freelancer and even a teacher. His approach has at its forefront the understanding of core business through research, in order to better understand the main needs of users (pain points) and to find interaction areas with the business (touchpoints).

Team structure and Evolutionary architecture

Join Software Crafters for a meetup about the Inverse Conway Maneuver, a demo focused on REST API and service layered architecture. RSVP here to save your front row spot on February 5, starting at 18:45!

About the event

“Any organization that designs a system (defined more broadly here than just information systems) will inevitably produce a design whose structure is a copy of the organization’s communication structure” –  Conway’s law (Melvin Conway,1968).

Eric S Raymond paraphrased the initial paper in The New Hacker’s Dictionary: “If you have four groups working on a compiler, you’ll get a 4-pass compiler.”

This observation has been confirmed by many subsequent observations and studies.

If you think about your own experiences chances are you’ve seen the effects of Conway’s law in the systems you worked with.

Conway’s Law counterpoint, known as the Inverse Conway Maneuver, involves re-engineering the structure of an organization based on a desired software design.

In this presentation there will be some examples of Inverse Conway Maneuver used in real life dealing with legacy code, splitting a monolith and increasing the ownership in software development teams.

In the second part of the event, it will a demo focused on REST API and service layered architecture.

The presentation covers
– Design decisions for scalability and constraints
– separation of different layers in an architecture

Event agenda

  • 18:45-19:00 Welcome and short intro
  • 19:00-19:45 “Inverse Conway Maneuver in Real Life” with Laurentiu Matei
