Coming to America Breakfast: US Expansion and Fundraising

THIS EVENT IS FOR TECHHUB MEMBERS ONLY

Join us for this kick off Coming to America breakfast — the first in a series of breakfast + Q&As for TechHub members interested in US expansion and fundraising, supported by Silicon Valley based Wilson Sonsini.

For many businesses, there’s nowhere better to start and grow than the UK, and nowhere better to expand and raise later-stage funding than the United States, which offers huge commercial opportunities and plentiful venture and growth capital. However, doing business and raising money in an unfamiliar, highly-competitive environment requires thoughtful advance planning and skilled execution.

For this kick off breakfast + Q&A, we are joined by Tech City UK Fellow Daniel Glazer, who leads Wilson Sonsini’s US Expansion group. Dan will facilitate a discussion on best practices for navigating the logistical aspects of launching and operating a UK business in the States, and setting and meeting expectations for US later-stage funding.

Frequently-asked questions include:

  • When do I need to create a US company?
  • Where is the best place to set up in the States?
  • How long does US set up take and how much does it cost?
  • When should I look to raise money from US VCs?
  • Do I need a US company to raise money from US VCs?
  • How is hiring different in the States?
  • Does everyone really sue each other all the time in the US?
  • Are there government resources to assist with US set up?
  • What are some of the biggest cultural challenges in the US?
  • What’s the most common US mistake UK companies make?

To help formulate other questions beforehand, here’s a link to the Tech City UK / Wilson Sonsini US expansion and fundraising library.

Please book your slot in advance. For the access code please email perdie.alder@techhub.com.

Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR) annually advises more technology and life sciences companies on US venture financings, M&A transactions and IPOs than any other law firm. WSGR is a Silicon Valley “anchor tenant,” having taken public Apple, Google, LinkedIn, Tesla, Twitter, and many others. WSGR is Tech City UK’s US partner and regularly advises UK/European companies on US expansion, fundraising and exit transactions, including in recent months as US counsel to Improbable in its $502m venture financing, FanDuel in its announced DraftKings merger, Wercker in its acquisition by Oracle, and Skyscanner/Ctrip in the acquisition of Trip.com.
