About the event

One of the tracks in this joint edition will cover Apache Spark’s Machine Learning Library (MLlib). This is a library built on top of Spark’s engine which allows us to train, test, validate and operationalize machine learning models while working with lots of data in a convenient way thanks to its robust abstractions over data sets.

You can use MLlib to build product recommendation systems by employing both traditional ML techniques such as collaborative filtering, as well as more novel, deep-learning approaches which make use of Recurrent Neural Networks.

Mihai Rotaru, Founder & CEO, Clever Tech. For the past 7 years, Mihai has been the mastermind behind Clever Taxi, a Romanian startup who pushed the quality benchmarks for taxi services around the country, introducing new options for his product. Clever Taxi remains the market leader with the highest number of taxi companies subscribed in the app, millions of processed orders and hundreds of thousands of customers all across the country. Back in 2017, Clever Taxi was acquired by MyTaxi (part of Daimler) for an undisclosed amount and Mihai kept leading the company as CEO.

Robert Knapp, serial entrepreneur & angel investor. Robert started his first company when he was 18 and was self-employed ever since, first in the music & events business and then, later in tech & security. Robert has built CyberGhost VPN from scratch and ran the company as a CEO until its acquisition in 2017 by Crossrider for 9.2 million EURs. He’s a sucker for excel sheets with numbers, conversion rates, St. Pauli soccer team, tattoos and Italian coffee.

Andra Zaharia, Marketing & Communications Manager, CyberGhost VPN. Hands-on, all-around marketing & communications expert with a soft soft for cybersecurity and startups, Andra likes to combine her tech knowledge with her communication experience to create better relationships between users of the www and beyond. Having 10+ years of experience in digital marketing, she is currently a part of the CyberGhost VPN team, working to help people realize the importance of data privacy and security and giving a hand to making the Internet a safer place for all of us.

About Elevator Lab Challenge

Elevator Lab Challenge is a local fintech selection program organized by Raifeissen Bank Romania in partnership with TechHub Bucharest. The program is open to international, later-stage startups, with existing fintech solutions and products in the fields of advanced analytics, regtech, corporate banking, investing & trading tech, new branch experience or open banking. The winners of the local challenge will receive 7,000 EUR cash prizes, a trip to Vienna for pitch training and a wild card to the last selection round of the Elevator Lab accelerator program.

Elevator Lab is Raiffeisen Bank International’s (RBI) group-wide accelerator program,  first launched in June 2017. With a potential access to 14 different markets, Elevator Lab is already the largest corporate fintech accelerator in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). This year, RBI Group puts a special focus on the fintech ecosystem in CEE.

PureScript is a strongly-typed functional programming language that compiles to JavaScript. This talk will give a brief overview of the PureScript syntax and a few key features, demo the language tooling and showcase Halogen, one of its numerous UI libraries. The talk assumes no prior knowledge of PureScript, although some familiarity with basic FP concepts (sum and product types, very basic Haskell syntax) is assumed.
