Blockchain-enabled Prediction & Transactions

The last Fintech Camp Bucharest meetup of 2018 brings into the spotlight an exciting topic – Blockchain applied to the financial market, namely transactions & prediction of events. RSVP here to save your front row spot on Thursday, December 6, starting 6:30 PM!

About the event

Andrew Hyde has a passion for community, writing, travel, and startups. He founded Startup Weekend, three other startups, and was employee #1 at Techstars. He also started Ignite Boulder, TEDxBoulder, as well as many other smaller events. During his talk, Andrew will share some insights about building decentralised peer-to-peer marketplaces.

Andrei Nagy has extensive experience in both the public and private sector, in various fields such as telecom (Oberthur Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise), payments (Mastercard), and tech (IBM). Currently, he is building the ‘Intelligent Web’ and is contributing to products that deliver systematic, scientific, replicable (SSR) processes that are objective, accountable and can be validated and used by the community. In the second part of the meetup, Andrei will talk about how apparently different assets can be analysed using the same type of driven behaviour based on prediction.

Meet the supplier x TechHub

The Agile Digital & ICT Resources Agreement (ADIRA) is a framework awarded by the National Procurement Service for Wales (NPS) aimed at providing the Welsh public sector with a fast, compliant and cost-effective route to access the skills and expertise required to support the delivery of digital and ICT initiatives.

ADIRA will use standardised Statements of Work to clearly define work packages which will allow for prompt payment based on either time and materials or delivery of outcomes. Whilst there is currently no definitive list of services, an initial catalogue of 17 service types has been defined (https://bloom.services/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/20180920_ADIRA_Category_List_FINAL.pdf) and will evolve over time, based on Customer requirements. Each individual requirement delivered through ADIRA will be valued at less than £500,000, with a duration of no longer than 12 months.

Bloom Procurement Services have recently been appointed as a vendor neutral supply partner and will be delivering the contract in partnership with Welsh-based company Atebion Solutions.

A number of Events have been arranged for any Suppliers interested in joining the ADIRA resource pool and all Welsh Public Sector Bodies interested in purchasing services via the ADIRA framework to understand how the software works as well as the requirements of the framework.

In addition to Bloom Procurement Services and Atebion SolutionsBusiness Wales will also be present at the event to demonstrate the help they can provide to Suppliers wishing to access the framework.

Please note that this is a free event, but places are limited to 2 members per organisation. The plan for the session is as follows:

08:30 – Registration & Refreshments

09:00 – ADIRA Overview

09:40 – ADIRA Demonstration

10:10 – Business Wales Support

10:25 – Questions and Answers

10:50 – Networking and Business Wales breakout sessions

Swansea Software Developer Community (SSDC)

This is a community for those who care and are proud of what they do. For those who are Developers, DBA’s (Database Administrators), Testers, Dev Ops (Developer Operations), UX (User Experience) or UI (User Interface), regardless how experienced they are, who want to improve.

The SSDC (Swansea software development community) meet on the last Monday of every month unless the meet-up falls on a bank holiday and then the meet-up moves forward a week.

For those long November evenings, we have an exciting double bill, featuring two local speakers.

TALK 1: Calvin, From supporting users, to building for users. Everything I’ve learned

Calvin initially started in a support role to assist users and has since transitioned to becoming a full-time software engineer. In this talk he speaks about the benefits of taking this route along with the many challenges involved such as getting familiar with a brand new programming language, switching to a new team, and much more.

Calvin is a Software Engineer on the Core platform at Veeqo, an all-in-one application used by hundreds of retail brands across the world.

TALK 2: Michał Poręba, Not So SQL Anymore

What if I told you that you don’t have to choose between SQL or NoSQL? That wouldn’t be quite true, but the choice is no longer binary. Some document databases offer now features typically associated with relational databases and a lot of relational database engines support document types. The gap between the data models is getting smaller. Let’s see what is possible to do with JSON and XML in SQL Server and how well does it perform.

Michał Poręba is a sort of a DBA who spends more time writing C#, PowerShell, JavaScript or even Ruby code than SQL queries. Server administration can and should be automated, performance is best addressed by good system design and implementation, and working with teams of developers is simply much more fun than spending your days listening to people complaining the database is not fast enough. He lives in Wales where he currently works as a Senior SQL Server DBA at Vizolution in Swansea. In his free time, he speaks obscure languages, plays music with code or dives in local caves trying to find places no human has ever been to before. Recently he started blogging at https://dbain.wales.
