Py@Codette 4.1

Do you want to learn about Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning but don’t know where to start? Py@Codette 4.1 is an introductory workshop full of interactive teaching and fun challenges! RSVP now and join them on November 16, for the 2nd edition of the workshop where the focus will be on understanding algorithms and the thinking behind.

About the event

You will not deal with Py @ Codette v4 to learn Python, but you will use it for the practical part of the workshop. So, participants need to have had previous tangents with the area of Computer Science and, ideally, have written code in Python before or (if not), be able to learn the “syntax” of a new programming language. Hurry up, registrations are open until November 9, 5 pm!

This event will be held in Romanian, and you can find more details on their Facebook event.

About the workshop

Come join us for an afternoon in which we will explore Apache Spark’s Machine Learning capabilities. We’ll be looking at using Spark to build a Credit Scoring model which estimates the probability of default for current and existing customers.

Agenda

1. Intro, problem description and setup
2. Loading data
3. Exploratory data analysis
4. Feature engineering
5. Building our first model
6. Testing and validation
7. Improving the model with cross-validation and hyper-parameter tuning
8. Deployment
9. Considerations for running in production

Prerequisites

Bring your laptop! Beyond that, the only requirement is a web browser. We will be using a managed Spark platform, called Azure Databricks, for the lab. We will provide access to Azure Databricks and everything else you need.

June meetup: machine learning, blockchain and big data

Join us to learn how about how to productionize machine learning and get a perspective on blockchain and big data. RSVP here to save your front row spot on June 5, starting 18:30!

About the event

Usually a machine learning project ends at evaluating the model: Do we have acceptable accuracy? Good. Now what?! The value of a ML model though is making accurate predictions for the users, deploying and maintaining the model should be easy and automated. But how?

We will answer these questions by:
– preparing Jupyter notebooks for production as reusable code blocks
– creating an ML workflow
– and finally serving online, at scale predictions using Lentiq Model Server.
Along the way, we will use Lentiq, Spark, Jupyter, MLeap, Flask, Kubernetes.

Blockchains and Big Data play well together. One can look at a blockchain like just a new kind of distributed database and, at the same, realize that the trust minimizing assumptions present in these systems can unlock additional value for ‘regular’ big data projects – either by offering an alternative to centralized storage or by easing the process of providing data and training models.

Event agenda

  • 18:30 – 19:00 Registration
  • 19:00 – 19:40 Productionizing Machine Learning, Cosmin Pintoiu & Costina Batica @ Lentiq

Quick intro to Tensorflow

If you are an AI/ML enthusiasts and what to get the grips of the Tensorflow framework, then this evening is for you. RSVP here to save your front row spot on March 19, starting 18:30!

About the event

In this demo, Przemek will make a short introduction to what is Machine Learning, the Gradient Descent algorithm and how to take advantage of them in Tensorflow. Tensorflow is a very popular open-source framework for developing applications which use Machine Learning.

This demo is most useful to AI/ML beginners, or people who want to learn what they entail. You don’t need to have prior AI knowledge. We recommend that the participants have at least a minimum level of understanding of the Python programming language, or be able to understand it.

During the presentation, we will use Colab for writing and testing the code. The participants don’t need to bring their laptops to this demo, but we highly encourage this in case you want to write the code at the same time with Przemek for a better understanding of the materials.

About the speaker

Przemek Zych, Senior Software Engineer @ Google, has been part of several teams within Google: Tech Infra (fleet optimization), YouTube (Content ID Match System) and Google Shopping (Merchant Center DB). 3 years ago he became interested in Machine Learning. He attended internal and public courses, and after joining the YouTube team (and now in the TechInfra team) he started to put his knowledge to practice.

Want to learn how you can use MLlib to build product recommendation systems? RSVP here to save your front row place on May 24, starting 6:30 PM!

About the event

One of the tracks in this joint edition will cover Apache Spark’s Machine Learning Library (MLlib). This is a library built on top of Spark’s engine which allows us to train, test, validate and operationalize machine learning models while working with lots of data in a convenient way thanks to its robust abstractions over data sets.

You can use MLlib to build product recommendation systems by employing both traditional ML techniques such as collaborative filtering, as well as more novel, deep-learning approaches which make use of Recurrent Neural Networks.

Spark v2.2 Workshop

Do you want to learn more about the newly introduced features in Spark v2.2 and about Spark’s integration with Kafka and Cassandra for streaming pipelines? RSVP here now and save your front row place on November 3, starting 3:30 PM!

About the event

  1. The first part of the workshop will cover Spark SQL with Scala, specifically the limited toy examples emphasized by Spark documentation and tutorials. Spark SQL, used in isolation, can realistically only be used for such didactic use cases – when ingesting real-world datasets, Spark SQL will very quickly show its limitations and therefore some more powerful techniques are needed.
  2. The second part of the workshop will cover the techniques mentioned above, without which Spark SQL is largely ineffective. This section of the workshop will be about sharing lessons learned the hard way, and experience gathered in the trenches of the real world.
  3. The third part of the workshop, titled “Machine Learning By Example”, will cover multiclass classification using SparkML’s Pipeline API with Scala. SparkML is the machine learning module that ships with Spark.
  4. During the remaining time, the trainer will focus on a Scala/Spark Streaming application that ingests data from Apache Kafka (an open-source, high-performance, distributed message queue), performs streaming analytics, then saves the analytics results back into Kafka.

If participants want to dive deeper into high-complexity topics, the trainer will instead focus on live coding ad-hoc demos.

Event agenda

  • 15:30 – 16:00 Welcome
  • 16:00 – 17:00 SQL with Scala
  • 17:00 – 18:00 Spark SQL techniques
  • 18:00 19:00 Machine Learning By Example
