What is Startup Weekend?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 3000 past events in 135 countries around the world.

This is the fifth edition of Startup Weekend Bucharest and the first specialized edition – we are working on Fintech solutions.

Who can participate?

Anybody who is interested in Fintech. If you have an idea on how Blockchain, Big Data, AI and other technologies can be used to solve financial sectors issues, come and pitch! Both industry experts and people with less experience, but a lot of enthusiasm can join and form teams around an idea.

How does it work?

Participants that have an idea, get 1 minute to pitch. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54-hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a co-founder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups.

The meetup is dedicated to bringing everybody interested in Fintech and being inspired by representatives from big financial companies. RSVP here to save your front row spot on April 15, starting 18:30!

About the event

All startups aim to be disruptive – to completely change the status quo through technology – and the financial sector has been going through massive changes in the past year. Most financial services are now digitized – the bank clerk seems a job from the past.

In this fast-changing environment, what does it mean to be an established company, with a long tradition versus being a fast-rising startup?

Our speakers will share their experience in the financial and digital sector, as well as insights about Fintech – the theme of this year’s Techstars Startup Weekend Bucharest I Fintech Edition.

About the startups

OpSeeker is the first financial coach that uses Behavioral Economics and AI in order to prepare young individuals to have money for a lifetime. The problem is clear: if we do not start investing for the long-term our society will experience a social and economic crisis as it has never seen before. Millennials can be the first generation with a worse life than their parents if we do not start changing their mentality in regards to money management. OpSeeker serves as an auto-correct for the brain, it works on those cognitive errors and emotional biases that we all have in order to prevent us to make the mistakes that we are wired to make due to our human nature. This way we can have a way better financial life without much effort!

Quontanda is a white-label lending as a service (LaaS) platform that enables organizations (schools, lenders, foundations, and government agencies) globally to quickly launch and efficiently manage student financing programs to make education more affordable. They put bills, people and payments into one place: a unified, frictionless and deeply integrated platform that will bring the home into the digital age. Setting up takes less than 4 minutes and with âcasă each person directly pays their share of the bills, so no one needs to front all the cash. Ultimately, we will create the ability to ‘log-in’ and ‘log-out’ of any home, anywhere in the world. With a single click.
