Crypto-trading

Join this Blockchain Romania meetup, to see what’s the role of trading in the crypto ecosystem. RSVP here to save your front row spot on December 4, starting at 18:30!

About the event

Trading is a perennial hot topic in crypto. Even since the first Bitcoin trade (10000 BTC for 2 pizza) people have been trying to figure out the market mechanisms that are behind any particular coin price. For this edition of our meetup, we’ll try to figure out
– what are the particularities or similarities between crypto markets and other “traditional” currencies and/or commodities?
– are there instruments (such as Technical Analysis) that can give insights into why prices are behaving in a particular way?
– is there anything that affects price except supply and demand?
– are the current price setting environments (i.e. exchanges) transparent enough in order to make the available tools efficient or are there nefarious activities that affect the said prices?

About the speakers

Armi Goldman – trader, behavioral and intelligence business consultant

Sergiu Draganus – founder of several cryptos (and non-crypto related businesses): CryptoCoin.PRO, GeoRanker, Swiss Crypto Exchange ( SRO/VQF regulated Swiss-based cryptocurrency exchange) and co-organizer of Romania Blockchain Summit

September BUcharestJS Meetup

BucharestJS is meeting for a talk about NodeJS & Typescript, and to do a live coding session of building a front-end app on top of a blockchain. RSVP here to save your front row spot on September 25, starting at 18:30!

Event agenda

  • 18:30 – 19:00 Registration
  • 19:00 – 19:30 A Modern NodeJS framework written in Typescript by Ionel Cristian Lupu, full-stack web developer and DevOps Engineer having a passion for coding projects from scratch

Ionel will be presenting a modern web framework built for Node.js, written in Typescript, that allows you to build fully-featured web applications. The framework is best suited for small-sized to enterprise-level apps. Most of the core packages it uses were built from scratch in order to preserve the performance of the framework. This was done to ensure that all the features you are using benefit from the latest language features. This framework’s source code is built around the developer’s expectations: it is modern, clean and beautiful. Also, the tools it’s providing are everything a developer needs to build his next awesome project.

  • 19:30 – 20:30 Live coding demonstration by Dragoș Rautu – CTO at Modex, experienced in FinTech and Blockchain solutions, with an extensive background as an architect and full-stack developer

The demo shows how easy it is to build a financial business flow by creating a simple front-end app on top of a blockchain database, without having to write any complex logic to enable the blockchain capabilities.
We will use Vue.js to create the front-end and, as back-end, we will use a GraphQL API provided out-of-the-box by Modex Blockchain Database (Modex BCDB)

Our friends from the Blockchain Community are starting this new season of meetups with a discussion about the privacy in the blockchain era. RSVP here to save your front row spot on Wednesday, September 4, starting 18:30!

About the event

In this edition of the meetup, we’ll discuss privacy aspects and in particular how Zero Knowledge Proofs (ZKP) can be used to anonymize and/or increase transaction confidentiality in general.
For this meetup, we’ll have as guest Bogdan Batog who will help us understand some of these concepts.
Bogdan is the author of “Scalable Reward Distribution on Ethereum Blockchain” paper presented at DappCon 2018 Berlin. He co-founded Sailo.com in 2014 and previously has worked with various technologies including signal processing, compiler backend optimizations or embedded apps.

About the event

John Carvalho and Felix Crisan will discuss upcoming protocol changes ( or rather protocol changes proposals, as it’s likely that some of them won’t make it in the Bitcoin Core releases) and what benefits will they bring (if/when they are adopted).

This means we’ll discuss Schnorr signatures, Taproot, MAST and Graftroot, but we’ll also touch upon some Lightning Network specific proposals such as Eltoo as well as changes to BOLT specs.

Intro to Generalized Mining

Join us to discuss how Staking as a Service works what needs to be done to implement it. RSVP here to save your front row spot on June 25, starting at 18:30!

About the event

As crypto-currencies and their infrastructure evolve, new consensus models are being tested and while Proof-of-Work is likely to stick around for a while, Proof-of-Stake is already taking an important share of the market. But changes in the entities and the models used so far also means changes to the business models, actors and ecosystems involved.

For this edition, we’ll have again a panel featuring

All three guests are involved with developing, running or operating services that could be qualified as next-gen mining.

In the discussion, we’ll try to answer questions such as

  • What is Staking as a Service?
  • How does it compare with “classical” mining?
  • What are the requirements to run staking services
  • and so on

  • 18:30 – 19:00 Registration
  • 19:00 – 20:00 Panel Discussions

June meetup: machine learning, blockchain and big data

Join us to learn how about how to productionize machine learning and get a perspective on blockchain and big data. RSVP here to save your front row spot on June 5, starting 18:30!

About the event

Usually a machine learning project ends at evaluating the model: Do we have acceptable accuracy? Good. Now what?! The value of a ML model though is making accurate predictions for the users, deploying and maintaining the model should be easy and automated. But how?

We will answer these questions by:
– preparing Jupyter notebooks for production as reusable code blocks
– creating an ML workflow
– and finally serving online, at scale predictions using Lentiq Model Server.
Along the way, we will use Lentiq, Spark, Jupyter, MLeap, Flask, Kubernetes.

Blockchains and Big Data play well together. One can look at a blockchain like just a new kind of distributed database and, at the same, realize that the trust minimizing assumptions present in these systems can unlock additional value for ‘regular’ big data projects – either by offering an alternative to centralized storage or by easing the process of providing data and training models.

Event agenda

  • 18:30 – 19:00 Registration
  • 19:00 – 19:40 Productionizing Machine Learning, Cosmin Pintoiu & Costina Batica @ Lentiq
  • 19:40 – 20:10 Technology showdown: database vs blockchain, Felix Crisan, Netopia
  • 20:10 21:00 Networking
