VC Coffee Morning with Anthemis

November 9, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am GMT

Join us for an informal chat over coffee and cake where we will be welcoming Giles Alexander, Sean Newham, and Katrina Cruz from Anthemis.

Anthemis cultivates change in financial services by buildinggrowing, and sustaining businesses committed to improving the world. Our deep understanding of markets and models, passion for emerging technology and spirit of collaboration inspire everything we do. By creating fertile ground for entrepreneurs, institutions, researchers, academics, and visionaries to come together, we believe we can solve the financial services world’s most pressing challenges faster, better and for the benefit of all. Learn more at www.anthemis.com.

Anthemis invests in FinTech specialist startups based in Europe and North America. We cast the net pretty widely: we look at B2B, B2C, B2B2C companies, new financial products, and technology and other products that support a better financial services world. We have a thesis that financial services should be available to all, irrespective of capital levels, and success should not be about winning a zero-sum game.

We’re interested in companies all the way from pre-seed to series A. We’re especially interested in sole founders, or founding teams who are looking for an incubator to help develop their ideas, especially at the intersection of clean energy and finance, or the intersection of smart cities and finance.

Joining the session will be;

Matthew Jones is an Associate at Anthemis, focusing on corporate venture investment through our Investment Partnerships. He was previously at Swiss Re, a re/insurance company, doing business development in London, followed by strategy and corporate development in Zurich and finally as part of the customer engagement team in London, focusing on innovation and tech.
He has a Bachelors in Business Administration from the University of Bath. Outside the office, he’s particularly interested in politics and sport, most notably football and rugby.

Giles Alexander is the Director of Technology at Anthemis. Though originally from New Zealand, he grew up in Darwin, Australia. After spending over ten years in startups and R&D companies, mostly working on AI products, but also social networks, consumer electronics and even printers, he joined the global IT consultancy ThoughtWorks. He remains passionate about writing code, seeing the world, reading books and technology’s obligation to empower and liberate humans.

Sean Newham, Technology Associate. Sean is a Software Engineer, responsible for building products and tools to help answer questions about concepts for new businesses. Prior to joining Anthemis, Sean worked in database product software and consulting. He has also previously worked in the public sector and for a specialist scientific company as a Developer and Data Specialist. He is a strong advocate for social justice, an avid reader and a cheerleader.

Katrina Cruz is a member of the Ecosystem Development team at Anthemis, Katrina is focused on strengthening Anthemis’ community of founders, venture partners and investors. She has strong grounding in the impact investment market having previously worked for leading firm ClearlySo in supporting early stage businesses to scale and raise private equity. Katrina read Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American Studies at the University of Manchester before exploring social anthropology and entrepreneurship in the Philippines. Outside of work, she is on a constant hunt for great coffee, learning by travelling and supporting the Filipino entrepreneurial community.

This session will be run as a roundtable, as is available to Founders / C-Level only.  Please book your slot using the ‘book place’ button.  For access code, please email perdie.alder@techhub.com.
