Startup stories with no happy end
November 8, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm UTC+0
The second evening about startup failure & lessons is here! Meet the founders that had to close their startup and find out what mistakes you should avoid in your entrepreneurial journey. RSVP now to save your front row place on November 8th, starting 6:30 PM!
About the event
TechHub Bucharest wants to dig deeper in the “fail fast -> learn quick” culture, by inviting a few entrepreneurs that had a first-hand experience with building a startup that had to be closed at one point.
We are aware that anyone can discuss (and brag) about success, but it takes something special to talk about failure. Learning from those that have the strength to share the struggles of an unsuccessful startup, and listening to the lessons they learned during the process is of incredible value to anybody that is currently working on or planning to have their own startup.
About the speakers
Sebastian Maraloiu is an experienced marketing professional, a growth hacker and the co-founder of Blushr, a mobile app that aimed to help teens find out if their high school crush had a crush on them in a Tinder-style. Sebastian will share the story of how he:
- grew Blushr from 0 to 200k downloads with no marketing budget
- got into the biggest business accelerator in the UK
- got 50k in funding
- managed a PR scandal the company was involved in alongside Tinder
Tudor Iliescu is a resilient tech entrepreneur growing startups that empower the individual. Among other things, in 2015 he co-founded EasyRide (App store & more info), Mongolia’s first ride-hailing platform. He spent almost a year on the ground, researching the market, raising investment, setting up the company, recruiting and managing the local team, developing partnerships etc. The experience was valuable in learning how to identify opportunities, start from scratch, find and deal with investors, localise a product and the marketing, manage compliance and legal in a difficult environment a.o. In the end, due to immense pressure from the Taxi Association, the venture was shut down by the Supreme Court for “operating an unlicensed taxi service”.
Alexander Stoica-Marcu is a 21 years old, banger business developer and part of the founding team of ProductLead.me. At 16 years old (2014) he founded together with this brother, Serve Hotel, a virtual concierge software platform for HORECA industry, where they wanted to replace all the personal with a mobile app. Got investment, hired 2 more programmers, major hotels from sea-side enrolled into the platform, after this they faced difficulties in controlling the team, scaling, traction and getting tourists from an old mentality of calling the concierge of the hotel for every request where instead of that they can use the mobile app/platform. Everything went down, when the brothers got into a fight, split up, stopped the development of the product due to lack of money and Alexander paid the first investment in full 2 years later. Alexander learned to strengthen the team, focus on sales from day 0, launch first an MVP and how to become a modern entrepreneur.
