Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to pay our respects to three startups.
TechHub want to look at the “fail fast – learn quick” culture that is everywhere in the startup world and thought that moving eulogies from the CEOs of failed startups would be an excellent way to start. Everyone can talk about success, but it takes something special to talk about failure.
Startups will often have a booming launch party, spend forever finding a cofounder and if they’re lucky, get acquired by larger companies… but this not the only exit strategy. They sometimes (ok, to tell the truth – statistically quite often) fail. Teams split up, customers don’t show up, investors pull back. TechHub is really keen to engage with the culture of failing fast and learning from mistakes.
If you’d like to come and mourn some startups, hear their stories and learn from their mistakes then keep an eye on this page for more details about how and when to register
During this event,
Rory will share his experience of co-founding a sports meetup app that launched in the states – to ultimately a pretty flat reception – coming back to the UK empty handed and pivoting across a number of different businesses over the next 3 years before closing. Rory will talk about his journey and learnings, including how to overpay for development & engineers; how to not validate your venture; a co-founder split and how working harder isn’t always the right call.
Aimée will share her experience of co-founding a voice tech app for kids, lining up investors, schools and families and having to walk away at the eleventh hour. She’ll share her thoughts on resilience and the importance of building a safety net, stress testing your co founder relationship, learning how to turn getting dumped by your cofounder into an advantage, and the power of laughter.
