Book Launch: That Lone Ship

September 14, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm BST

that lone ship on the horizon,
arriving or leaving?

Join Rhys Owain Williams for the hometown launch of his much-anticipated debut poetry collection That Lone Ship, published by Parthian Books. Held in the relaxed setting of TechHub Swansea‘s basement café, on the night there’ll be readings from the book, music from the talented singer-songwriter Joe Bayliss and a fine selection of beers, wines, coffee and other hot and cold drinks available from the basement café bar.

“The decks of That Lone Ship fizz with the imagery of a changing seaside town. Its souls are chronicled with pathos and tenderness.” – Paul Henry

“Wide-ranging and intelligent, heartfelt and elegant – Rhys Owain Williams explores loss, love and a Swansea boyhood in poems that surprise and amaze.” – Joe Dunthorne

“Rhys Owain Williams proves himself a skilled navigator, charting a course through seas both calm and rough, familiar and strange. By turns moving, poignant, funny and undeniably local, these poems deal with place and people, love and friendship: Swansea town and its familial inhabitants in all their ugly (lovely) glory. That Lone Ship, whether arriving or departing, is one you’ll swim out to; one you won’t want to miss.” – Emily Blewitt

RHYS OWAIN WILLIAMS is a writer of poetry, fiction and non-fiction from Morriston, Swansea. His poetry has been published in various magazines and anthologies, including AgendapoetryLighthouse Literary Journal and Popshot Magazine, and was recently featured in a permanent public art project at Morriston Hospital, curated by Art in Site. Rhys was a runner-up in the WalesPENCymru New Voices Competition 2016, and was chosen as one of the Hay Festival’s Writers at Work in 2017. He co-runs The Crunchmultimedia poetry magazine and is assistant editor of The Ghastling.

JOE BAYLISS is a singer-songwriter from Swansea. He has been described as having “one of the most haunting voices you could fit inside a human” (Fear and Loathing) and writes songs that are “brutally sincere and breathtakingly bare” (Independent Music News). Joe has played gigs and festivals across the UK, and is regularly featured on the Oak SessionsYouTube channel. In 2017, he established the Swansea Music Hub and relaunched The Swansea Fringe Festival, with the second edition set to take place between October 4th–7th later this year. You can hear some of Joe’s music at joebayliss.co.uk
