Events - We've Had a Few...

By Liam Moore

It’s been a smashing year for events at TechHub. In July we celebrated our 1st birthday with a big bash – and our Winter Party was even bigger! September saw the launch of the awesome Roundabout Brewery and there’ll be more beery goodness from there  in the New Year.

We welcomed amazing speakers: Nicholas Negroponte, Fred Destin presenting his Startup Lifecycle while serial entrepreneurs Di-Ann Eisnor and Jack D. Hidary shared a cosy ‘fireside chat’ with our own Mike Butcher.

In October we launched TechHub’s Startup Resource Centre a popular series of 1-2-1 sessions providing invaluable help from VCs, lawyers, accountants, PRs… You can get the jump on the rest of the startup crowd by signing up for our new batch of pr/marketing, legal and finance sessions in Jan.

Our sponsors got in on the act too as we were joined in October by Google’s marketing guru Obi Felten, Pearson talked Tablets in August while Bluevia provided tip top advice in their monthly mobile 1:2:1s.

We introduced a host of new & exciting products to a lively & engaged audience at our ever-popular Demo Nights. Register for a chance to showcase your mobile related product in February’s Demo Night mobile editionAnd if you’re something of a mobile guru drop us a line here if you fancy facilitating one of our laid back monthly mobile meetups.

If all this wasn’t enough we partnered with Internet Week Europe and hosted a cornucopia of events for others including: Facebook Developer Garage, HerokuLondroid, Product Tank, Virgin Media and of course our awesome TechHub members!

Email us to find out how to hire TechHub for your event and join TechHub and enjoy 2012’s exclusive Members' Only events.

Auld acquaintances and all that...

We’re now recruiting for a new Events Superstar to take us full steam ahead into 2012 as I head off after 6 excellent months at TechHub. Thanks to everyone who's made it an enjoyable stay!

I’m off to continue growing my own startup, an exec coaching practice, and am focusing on the start up community, so get in touch to find out more.

TechHub's First Birthday

By Miguel Garcia
TechHub is tonight celebrating our 1st birthday and we have a lot to be excited about!

For many startups surviving the one year mark is a feat in itself, let alone going beyond it, but TechHub has been thriving and expanding since the day we launched and we're still flying high.

"We're excited to be celebrating our first birthday at TechHub. It's been a whirlwind year and it's really a testament to the support of the tech community, our members, sponsors and friends that we've had such a fantastic launch year" says Elizabeth Varley, Co-founder & CEO.

TechHub has seen such an increase in membership that space at its current home is running out. Building new spaces to accommodate our growth has not been enough to address the amazing number of new members and residents that have decided to join our family. We couldn't be happier with the effects, leading us to move to larger new premises before the end of 2011. As we go forward into our second year we will be revealing further exciting news for the next chapter of TechHub.

None of this would be possible without the support of our wonderful community. Our first birthday celebrates not only TechHub but all those who have contributed to our great success. As well as our awesome members and supporters, a big thank you goes to our major sponsors: Pearson, Google and BlueVia - you help make this possible.

We also couldn't put on such great shindigs without our events sponsors, so we'd like to thank our lovely birthday sponsors, UK2.netDorsey & Whitney and Viadeo, for helping make this a memorable evening.

"Dorsey is an international firm, representing technology startups throughout their lifecycle, from incorporation, through financing to an acquisition or IPO. Our office is just along the road from TechHub and we have been involved since the early days. We are delighted to be sponsoring TechHub's first birthday party- it is a terrific milestone and one that should be celebrated in grand style!" says Frances Doherty, Partner.

UK2's MD Martin Barker said, “
UK2 were a start-up not so long ago. We launched in 1998 and have experienced the trials and tribulations that comes from building a successful business. Since then we have grown into a leading UK web host, including launching a number of other successful startups within our group. We want to offer startups the support and tools they need to successfully launch and manage their websites, and we're looking forward to celebrating with the TechHub startups tonight."

So make sure to bring your best birthday spirit! We look forward to having you blow out the candles with us.

TechHub Winter Party thanks to Viadeo, Webfusion & VeriQual

By Elizabeth Varley
Tonight's the night for festive fun to finish the year! We have loads of great startups, high-growth tech companies, VCs, angels, press and others coming along to celebrate 2010 with TechHub, and are very lucky to have some international visitors with us tonight as well.

We'll be giving away a free TechHub Membership tonight, so please do bring your business cards for our prize draw. And don't forget your secret santa gift (just something small), to put into our lucky dip. If you're taking photos or video tonight, please tweet them @TechHub using the #TechHub hashtag so everyone can see them.

We'd particularly like to thank tonight's sponsors, Viadeo, Webfusion and VeriQual for their generous support of the event, and there will be a few folks around from their teams so you can buy them a free drink and have a chat with them about how they can help you.

A few words from Viadeo...

Viadeo has over 30 million members including business owners, entrepreneurs and senior managers from a diverse range of organisations – both start-up and well-established – across 226 countries.
Professionals use Viadeo to enhance their career prospects, discover business opportunities and build relationships with new contacts as well as to create an effective online identity.

We strongly believe in supporting the start-up community by sponsoring events but also by offering developers the chance to integrate with our platform either by creating a Google OpenSocial app or by pursuing a more advanced integration via our API.

As an international network we understand how important social and cultural differences are in the way different countries conduct business. We have offices and teams located in the US, the UK, France, Spain, Italy, China, India, Mexico and Canada where we form partnerships with local companies, organisations and associations and support locally run events.

For more information please visit us at www.viadeo.com or contact us at partnerships@viadeo.com

We'd also like to thank all of you for a great year. TechHub is now a spritely five months old and going from strength to strength. We couldn't have done it without the tremendous support of our wonderful Members who totally rock, and from our sponsor partners Pearson and Google who we're looking forward to more exciting activities with next year. To everyone who's supported TechHub, a genuine and heartfelt thank you.

See you tonight!

Here's the press release that went out today:

Google sponsors TechHub, a new London centre for technology companies and start-ups

London: Google, the global leader in search and technology, has become one of the first founding sponsors of TechHub, a new co-working space and innovation centre for technology start-up companies, located in central London.

TechHub provides workspace, hosts events and will serve as a focal point for innovation particularly among European tech developers and entrepreneurs. Google joins Pearson as founding sponsors of the London space.

TechHub, launching in London in July, will see hundreds of members using shared working space and meeting via events and hosted networking. Located in London’s Shoreditch neighbourhood, dubbed "Silicon Roundabout", an area rich in digital start-up companies, TechHub includes workspace, meeting rooms, and areas for presentations and networking events. Other features and services available in the coming months include a device-testing room for mobile developers with the latest handsets available to book.

"Developers drive important innovation on the web and mobile. Google is happy to support TechHub's aim to provide developers and budding tech entrepreneurs with an affordable, buzzing and creative working environment in London." said Google's Reto Meier, Android Developer Advocate.

Google continually supports developers and the innovative technology scene around the world through developer events, meetings and competitions.

“We're really excited to have Google working with us to support the tech entrepreneur and developer community. Google's role as a TechHub founding sponsor further demonstrates their desire to get right in at the coal face with tech innovators,” said Elizabeth Varley, TechHub’s CEO. “Google has some great stuff planned to take place at TechHub which will offer fantastic opportunities for our members."

The start-up and entrepreneurial community will benefit from the collaborative environment that TechHub will provide via a dedicated space in London for local innovators and visiting technology people.

TechHub London is located adjacent to the Old Street station on London’s Underground network, and is about a 10-minute walk from the Liverpool Street mainline train station. Besides providing shared workspace for companies and individuals based in London, TechHub allows tech visitors from elsewhere in the UK, Europe, the US and beyond to plug into the vibrant community, work and meet.

TechHub announces Pearson as first founding sponsor

By Elizabeth Varley

We're delighted that TechHub has signed Pearson, the global education and media company, as its first founding sponsor.

Pearson’s role as a TechHub founding sponsor partner shows that a large company with a leadership role in digital publishing and digital education values collaboration with the innovative entrepreneur community.

In Pearson's announcement director of digital product and consumer technology Juan Lopez-Valcarcel said “Digital products and services already comprise about a third of Pearson’s global revenues and we are always looking at new ways of partnering with innovative start-ups and reaching top tech talent. We are excited about being TechHub’s first founding sponsor and look forward to engaging with what promises to be a vibrant community of tech entrepreneurs.”

Right now, Pearson has teams worldwide exploring the digital frontiers of its businesses – education, consumer publishing at Penguin and business information at the Financial Times Group.

All these businesses will benefit from the collaborative environment that TechHub plans to provide. The partnership with TechHub is also a natural fit with other Pearson digital initiatives including an innovation fund that helps turn exciting ideas into new products and services.

TechHub is all about relationships and collaboration in technology, innovation and supporting tech start-ups, so as you can tell we’re pretty excited about Pearson’s involvement.
