By Amanda Foley
TechHub is looking for an organised, efficient and self-motivated Operations intern in London!

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in a growing tech startup, get access to some great events, network and meet fantastic people.

For this internship, you'll be helping to manage a busy co-working environment, and you'll need to be a true "To-Do List" worshipper.

The kind of on-the-ball person who gets their kicks from colour coding their wardrobe. A ridiculously detail-oriented guy or gal; meticulous about the little things.

If that sounds like you, read on.

You'll be assisting the TechHub Operations manager to ensure things run smoothly at TechHub London. Your tasks will include (but not be limited to):
  • Assisting with building refurbishment
  • Sourcing quotes from product suppliers,  placing orders and ensuring delivery
  • Helping to implement, organise and execute operational strategies to help streamline operations
  • Operations-related adminisrative tasks

Required:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel)
  • Internet research efficiency (basically: be really good at googling, sourcing info and presenting your findings)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Adaptable
  • Able to multi-task
  • Detail-oriented & reliable
  • Can-do attitude

Having an interest in start ups & technology is beneficial!

The internship is 28 hours per week and expenses are paid (a daily amount for travel and lunch).

Please email  our wonderful Operations Manager, Carly "The Pedantic One" Newman at carly@techhub.com with the subject "Operations Intern" if you're interested.  Be sure to include a CV, why you'd like to intern at TechHub, and one quirky detail about yourself. Good luck! :)

Love events? Events Assistant needed at TechHub London

By Elizabeth Varley

TechHub London has an opportunity for a bright and enthusiastic individual to join us as an Events Assistant.

Events are at the heart of TechHub’s business, informing and bringing together our members and the wider tech community, and helping to drive one of the UK’s most creative and dynamic industries.

So, we're looking for someone to join our great team in this busy role in Shoreditch, London. Working at TechHub means you'll get to be part of  a fast-growing and very exciting tech community, and be right at the heart of it. You'll be working with a smart, fun, friendly team of 10 awesome people.

Would you like to be part of a tech startup phenomenon? TechHub launched nearly two years ago and in that short time has had a huge amount of media coverage and interest from the tech startup community. We're committed to making a difference to tech startups in London and beyond, and have some very exciting announcements on the horizon about new international locations with the first TechHub Riga in Latvia having opened in February!

The role:

Working with the Events Manager, the role is initially required to look after pre-event admin and marketing (booking bar staff and volunteers, ordering catering, keeping events sites up to date), and working on events themselves (coordinating bar staff and volunteers, setting up venue, greeting and checking in attendees, speakers and sponsors).

While we'll be very happy to have you contribute creative ideas for events,
bear in mind that this role is very heavy on the nitty gritty required to make events happen - the admin, bookings, coordinating. A feet-on-the-ground role, rather than a head-in-the-clouds thing.

The role is full time (40 hours per week), and you’ll need to be available a minimum of 2 evenings per week as part of this (usually Tue, plus Wed or Thurs).

You’ll need to be reliable, flexible and enthusiastic with a willingness to get stuck in.

You have:

  • Excellent organisation skills - you write things down and then get them done
  • Great proactivity and self-management - you don't need to be micro-managed and will flag it up early if you're having any problems
  • An interest in the tech industry is essential - you're excited about what's going on in this community
  • Experience of working in events - you know what it takes to get the job done and you thrive in a buzzy, fast-moving environment with lots of people

This is a fantastic opportunity in a thriving industry. You’ll get to mix with loads of interesting entrepreneurs and other industry people as well, and a really fun team.

To apply:

  • email your CV to rosa@techhub.com
  • put “TechHub Events Assistant” in the subject line
  • include a short covering email explaining why you’re interested in  the role
  • briefly detail any relevant experience
  • explain why you’d be great for TechHub
  • let us know how many evenings per week you could typically offer
  • include your salary expectations and availability to start

Be professional but with personality - don't write like a corporate drone, let your real self shine through your email.

NO PHONE CALLS - if you call, we'll assume that you're not able to follow direction or didn't bother to read the full advert.

-------

We're hiring! We're looking for a fantastically talented, friendly, capable Front of House person for TechHub London. The role combines reception, member liaison, office management, facilities management, being the face of the physical TechHub London space, and our online network - getting involved with our social media and comms as well.

This is an incredibly important role for the company - in fact one of our most important roles - and is so much more than just buzzing people in. So if you're looking for something that doesn't need to use your brain, or you can just coast in, move along!

-------

We're looking for someone to join our great team in this busy role in Shoreditch. Working at TechHub means you'll get to be part of  a fast-growing and very exciting tech community, and be right at the heart of it. You'll be working with a smart, fun, friendly team of 10 awesome people.

Would you like to be part of a tech startup phenomenon? TechHub launched 18 months ago and in that short time has had a huge amount of media coverage and interest from the tech startup community. We're committed to making a difference to tech startups in London and beyond, and have some very exciting announcements on the horizon about new international locations with the first TechHub Riga in Latvia having opened in February! In the next few months we'll be moving (very close by) to a new location - we're growing really fast.

For this role, you'll need to be super flexible, quick on your feet, able to multitask and be ready to get stuck in no matter what the challenge. You need to be bright and super outgoing - a huge smile and friendly chat is what we need to greet everyone who comes through our door.

This is a great opportunity for someone with an excellent eye for detail and a love of interacting with people, ideally with office management experience who wants to take it to the next level and grow with TechHub. If you're successful, speedy advancement is definitely an option - you could end up working on operations for TechHub, moving into events, heading up all marketing and comms, or setting up and managing a TechHub in an international city. There are huge possibilities for the right person!

This is a great opportunity for someone who loves people and is keen to work in a start-up environment and have the opportunity to rapidly move up within the company.

Core duties of the roles:

Reception

  • Greet members and guests, assign & monitor guest passes - you're the first port of call for any member queries and external contact
  • Manage the physical sign-in process
  • Book meeting rooms  and tours
  • Answer calls, emails and queries

Office & facilities management

  • Open up in the mornings and sometimes close up in the evenings when required
  • You know everything that's going on in the space at all times - everyone that walks through the door is your responsibility, unless they're passed to someone else
  • Helping the operations manager deal with property maintenance - flagging and passing on any issues instantly, and communicating with members about it when necessary
  • Monitoring consumables - from the milk in the kitchen to hand-towels in the bathroom. You'll keep an eagle-eye out to make sure things run smoothly

Social media & comms

  • You're the friendly face of TechHub London on the online member network
  • You'll manage our twitter account and engage in conversations on our Facebook page
  • You'll become part of the tech scene through your presence on industry blogs and forums
  • If you can write a kick-ass newsletter and blog posts, even better!

Event assistance (approx 1-2 evenings per month)

  • All staff rotate on helping with events
  • Help setting up the event space and catering
  • Greet speakers and attendees
  • Manage the guest list

Role description
  • This role will be full time 8.30am - 5.30pm (we're open 9am-6pm)
  • Working on-site at TechHub London in City Rd, London EC1Y 2BJ and in the next few months, at TechHub @ Campus in Bonhill Street, London.

You’re an essential member of the TechHub team and we’ll be relying on you to be a friendly, professional face of the space. You’ll be genuinely valued – we want the benefit of your experience, skills and expertise to help us shape how the space is run, the processes that need to be put in place, and to come up with ideas to make TechHub even better.

You are:

  • Punctual, with excellent time-keeping and completely reliable – you’re such an important member of the team as sometimes you may be opening up in the morning or closing up at night and trusted with important responsibilities. We need to know you’ll be there when you say you will and are totally trustworthy! This is very, very important for this role.
  • Super organised – great at managing your time and workload to ensure everything gets done and that handovers with other staff are smooth and seamless.
  • Process-driven - while you're great at jumping in and doing things last-minute when necessary, you have strong skills in creating processes to ensure that nothing is forgotten and your work flows smoothly.
  • Friendly and personable with great communication skills – you love interacting with people and helping make their day the best it can be. Our members are lovely people and we know you’ll enjoy meeting them.
  • Excellent at remembering names and faces – you’ll be getting to know the people who visit TechHub and everyone loves to be treated like a valued member, rather than a membership number!
  • Comfortable working independently - as you're sat away from the rest of the team, you'll need to really enjoy interacting with members as a big part of your day, but still work as part of the team.
  • Great with using computers and the internet - you'll need to quickly get to grips with our systems, so good skills with the ability to learn new software, applications and technology is a must.
  • Excellent English language skills - top notch communication ability is a must including correct spelling.
  • Happy to muck in – as with any startup, some duties might be unexpected, or there might be times when it’s all hands on deck. We’re looking for people who want to see TechHub succeed and will get the job done.
  • Innovative, creative and proactive – you’ll be developing processes and working out the best ways of doing things, including problem solving. If you think something could be improved, we want to hear your thoughts, and we’d love you to anticipate issues before they arise, and take action where it’s needed.
  • The kind of person who goes the extra mile – you’re genuinely helpful and committed and these qualities won’t go unnoticed at TechHub, we believe in giving credit where credit’s due.
  • Ideally enthusiastic about technology and entrepreneurship – this is what we’re all about and we’d love our staff to understand why tech companies need TechHub and to gain an insight into what it’s like to startup and run a company.

While we're seeking someone who will really love this role, there are great opportunities to move forward with TechHub in time, either into events planning and management or into a more senior management role for one or more TechHub spaces.

As this role is very important to the company, we're looking for someone who want to join the TechHub team and who are interested in full-time, long-term work  (not suitable as a holiday temp job).

Important: To apply, make sure you do the following:

  • email your CV to Elizabeth at elizabeth at techhub.com

  • tell us why we should hire you
  • include your hourly rate & salary expectations - bear in mind that we are a startup, so won't be able to offer corporate salaries
  • and include your earliest start date
Be professional but with personality - don't write like a corporate drone, let your real self shine through your email.

NO PHONE CALLS - if you call, we'll assume that you're not able to follow direction or didn't bother to read the full advert.

Jobs at TechHub: Events Manager

By Elizabeth Varley

We're very excited to announce an opportunity at TechHub: we're looking for an events superstar!

Would you like to be part of a tech startup phenomenon? TechHub launched sixteen months ago and in that short time has had a huge amount of media coverage and interest from the tech startup community. We're committed to making a difference to tech startups in London and beyond, and have some very exciting announcements on the horizon about enhanced space in London and new international locations.

With so many great events already going on at TechHub London, exciting new plans and more and more companies and organisations wanting to run events with us, we now need someone dedicated to making sure every single one is a smash.

This is a great opportunity for someone with solid events experience, who wants to take it to the next level and grow with TechHub. If you're successful, speedy advancement is definitely an option - you could end up overseeing all UK events for TechHub, or getting involved in international TechHubs and ending up as global events director or setting up and managing a TechHub in another city. There are huge possibilities!

The role:

  • Coordinating and managing all events at TechHub London.
  • Logistics: you'll respond to enquiries, manage quoting, book dates, plan and order catering and staff, and any additional equipment or furniture requirements.
  • Promotion: you'll create event registration pages, manage online event promotion (including writing the event copy and posting it to various websites), and create relationships with organisations to promote relevant events to their network.
  • Event management: you'll ensure smooth running of the event on the day, manage our volunteer event assistants and recruit more, welcome guests, manage clear-up and lock up after the event.
  • Sponsorship: you'll manage relationships with sponsors, ensuring their needs are met. Ideally you'll have some experience with creating sponsorship packages and selling to sponsors - though in this role it's rarely cold-calling as you'll have interested contacts passed through to you for follow-up.

This is a full time role - likely hours will be 40 hours a week, spread out over 4-5 days and evenings per week and you *must* be able to work evenings at least a few evenings a week (usually Tuesday-Thursday). We anticipate it will begin as a freelance role and then move to a permanent role if all is going well.

This role will involve evening work - as our evening events usually run 6.30-9.30pm, on event days you may need to work until 10pm to oversee the event, so flexible availability is a must. Please do not apply for the role if you are available only during the day.

You may have had previous roles as an event manager, event assistant or event coordinator, or you might have organised or managed events as part of another role, such as marketing, office management or PA work. We're flexible on your background but need someone who can hit the ground running and quickly become part of our fun, friendly and hard-working team.

You are:

  • Super organised - you just can't rest until every last detail is planned and prepared, and you know how to anticipate everything and have plans in place to deal with the unexpected.
  • Agile in dealing with change - we sometimes need to take advantage of last-minute opportunities, such as an international speaker being available at very short notice. In a small company, flexibility is key - we need someone who won't freak out if they need to arrange a same-week event.
  • Confident and well-spoken - you'll become the face of TechHub events, welcoming attendees and guests at the beginning of each event, and will need to be able to speak to people at the event if they have questions or want to know more about TechHub.
  • Reliable - we need to know that you'll be there when you say you will, and get done what you say you'll get done. We're a small team and this is absolutely essential.
  • An excellent writer of English - there will be a lot of emails and copy to be written as part of the role to answer queries, make arrangements and promote events, so great language skills are very important.
  • Keen to be part of a small and growing team - this isn't a corporate role, so the need to muck in and get your hands dirty is balanced with great opportunities for responsibility and advancement.
  • Strategically-minded - you need to be able to understand how events fit into the wider scope of TechHub, how to make sure they're doing what we need them to do, and how to ensure they're making money without compromising our objectives.
  • Interested in the technology and web industry - you get excited about the possibilities for people to create amazing new tools, products and companies and want to help bring these people together to learn, network and take advantage of opportunities.

So, if this sounds like you, and you have an engaging, enthusiastic personality, get in touch with Elizabeth Varley at elizabeth AT techhub.com with:

  • Your CV
  • TechHub Events Superstar in the subject line
  • A brief overview of your relevant experience and skills
  • Details of your availability - when you could start, hours you could commit to
  • The hourly or daily rate you'd expect as a freelancer, and the annual salary level you'd seek  in a permanent role - do bear in mind that as a small company, we won't be offering corporate-level salaries
  • A line or two about why we should specifically choose you

Be professional but with personality - don't write like a corporate drone, let your real self shine through your email.

Please get in touch asap.

Hire a contractor free with the TechHub secondment programme

By Elizabeth Varley
Looking for some expert help for your cash-strapped startup? Could you use a developer for two months, or an operations person a day a week?

At TechHub, we're putting a programme in place where corporates can offer their staff on secondment to tech startups. It might be that the corporate would like to contribute to the startup community via their talented staff, offer an opportunity to their staff to try new things, or if they're facing redundancies and want to help staff on their way to joining a startup or beginning their own as an entrepreneur.

We have one such project that we're planning with a large mobile company at the moment, and while the project is still in planning, it's likely  they'll have some people across development, engineering, product management, ops and some support functions such as HR avalable to startups to temporarily take on board.

We want to get an idea of which companies need help and in which areas, and whether or not there's the possibility it could turn into a role afterwards (this isn't a definite requirement, but we do want to know if it's a possibility).

This is being offered to TechHub Members first, and potentially to other tech startups in the Shoreditch area.

If you're interested please email Elizabeth [@] Techhub.com:
  • A 100-word description of your company and product. Include the size of your company/roles in the current team and how long it's been running.
  • A 100-word brief outline of the project/area you'd need help with
  • A list of the skills a person would need in order to be involved
  • Whether you'd need someone full time for a few months, or if a day/few days a week would also work
  • Please note if any of the roles a person or people would be filling is likely to turn into a permanent or longer-term contract role (paid) with your company
Once the programme is in place, we'll be arranging a speed-dating/meet & greet evening for potential employees to meet with the startups.

If you're a large employer and you'd be interested in joining this programme at TechHub, please get in touch with Elizabeth at TechHub.com for more details of how to get involved.

Role description

  • TechHub is open 8am – 10pm, so you can choose from core working hours of either 7.30am – 3.30pm, or 2.30pm – 10.30pm, to suit your family arrangements or other commitments.
  • Working on-site at TechHub London in City Rd, London EC1Y 2BJ

You’re an essential member of the TechHub team and we’ll be relying on you to be the friendly, professional face of the space. You’ll be genuinely valued – we want the benefit of your experience, skills and expertise to help us shape how the space is run, the processes that need to be put in place, and to come up with ideas to make TechHub even better.

You are:

  • Punctual, with excellent time-keeping and completely reliable – you’re such an important member of the team as you’ll be opening up in the morning or closing up at night and trusted with important responsibilities. We need to know you’ll be there when you say you will and are totally trustworthy!
  • Super organised – great at managing your time and workload to ensure everything gets done and that handovers with your counterpart are smooth and seamless.
  • Great with using computers and the internet - you'll need to quickly get to grips with our booking and member-management systems, so good skills with the ability to learn new software, applications and technology is a must.
  • Ideally enthusiastic about technology and entrepreneurship – this is what we’re all about and we’d love our staff to understand why tech companies need TechHub and to gain an insight into what it’s like to start-up run a company.
  • Happy to muck in – as these are new roles, some duties might be unexpected, or there might be times when it’s all hands on deck. We’re looking for people who want to see TechHub succeed and will get the job done.
  • Innovative, creative and proactive – you’ll be developing processes and working out the best ways of doing things.

While we're seeking people who will really love these roles, there are great opportunities to move forward with TechHub in time, either into events planning and management or into a more senior club management role for one or more TechHub spaces.

As these roles are very important to the company, we're looking for people who want to join the TechHub team and who are interested in full-time, long-term work  (not suitable as holiday temp jobs).

Important: To apply, make sure you do the following:

  • email your CV to Elizabeth at hostjobs@techhub.com
  • include a covering email telling us why you're interested in the role
  • briefly detail your relevant experience and skills in the email. We want to see that you're excited by this particular opportunity.
  • include your salary expectations
  • tell us which role you're interested in (early or late)
  • and include your earliest start date
