Events - We've Had a Few...

By Liam Moore

It’s been a smashing year for events at TechHub. In July we celebrated our 1st birthday with a big bash – and our Winter Party was even bigger! September saw the launch of the awesome Roundabout Brewery and there’ll be more beery goodness from there  in the New Year.

We welcomed amazing speakers: Nicholas Negroponte, Fred Destin presenting his Startup Lifecycle while serial entrepreneurs Di-Ann Eisnor and Jack D. Hidary shared a cosy ‘fireside chat’ with our own Mike Butcher.

In October we launched TechHub’s Startup Resource Centre a popular series of 1-2-1 sessions providing invaluable help from VCs, lawyers, accountants, PRs… You can get the jump on the rest of the startup crowd by signing up for our new batch of pr/marketing, legal and finance sessions in Jan.

Our sponsors got in on the act too as we were joined in October by Google’s marketing guru Obi Felten, Pearson talked Tablets in August while Bluevia provided tip top advice in their monthly mobile 1:2:1s.

We introduced a host of new & exciting products to a lively & engaged audience at our ever-popular Demo Nights. Register for a chance to showcase your mobile related product in February’s Demo Night mobile editionAnd if you’re something of a mobile guru drop us a line here if you fancy facilitating one of our laid back monthly mobile meetups.

If all this wasn’t enough we partnered with Internet Week Europe and hosted a cornucopia of events for others including: Facebook Developer Garage, HerokuLondroid, Product Tank, Virgin Media and of course our awesome TechHub members!

Email us to find out how to hire TechHub for your event and join TechHub and enjoy 2012’s exclusive Members' Only events.

Auld acquaintances and all that...

We’re now recruiting for a new Events Superstar to take us full steam ahead into 2012 as I head off after 6 excellent months at TechHub. Thanks to everyone who's made it an enjoyable stay!

I’m off to continue growing my own startup, an exec coaching practice, and am focusing on the start up community, so get in touch to find out more.

Legal Week at TechHub

By Liam Moore

After the success of TechHub Finance Week in September and our Marketing Day on 5th October we're bringing you a week of legal events designed to help protect your startup (and your customers) and strengthen its commercial potential.

DorseyLogoLLP(EUROPE)-TM-RGB.jpg

We kick off on Wednesday 26th Oct, 2pm, with a workshop presented and sponsored by Dorsey & Whitney Solicitors: Privacy & Liability Online, protecting you and your customers. Focusing on new privacy and data protection laws and the implications of user generated content for your startup the session will help identify where you need to comply with the law, how to avoid litigation and where there may also be opportunities for creative minds. More info and booking here

Cloud Busting! Keeping it legal in remote environments – Monday 31st Oct, 2pm. With big guns like Apple setting out their stall it seems that cloud computing is here to stay. If your business or product operates in or makes use of a cloud environment there are a host (no pun intended!) of considerations. Taking a business development perspective John Haggis from Sheridans Solicitors will introduce those considerations and let you know how to avoid potential pitfalls. Info and booking here

Rounding off Legal Week on Wednesday 2nd Nov, 2pm, we have Protecting Ideas & Innovation an Intellectual Property (IP) workshop hosted and sponsored by with Pillsbury Solicitors. Ideas are the bedrock of business. Whatever you are producing if it involves an element of Intellectual Property (IP) you need to protect it first so you can commercialise it later. Split into two sections (on IP and Non-Disclosure Agreements), this workshop aims to help you identify when your product needs to be protected and how. Book here

Marketing day at TechHub - Wednesday 5th Oct

By Liam Moore
Hot on the heels of last week's immensely successful "Finance Week" @TechHub, next week sees a day of marketing related events to help you understand and reach your customers and investors...

The day kicks off with a special (and now fully booked!) 'mini PR work shops' with Ubiquity Comms aimed at helping you understand how to generate media coverage, online buzz and awareness of your product or company on a shoestring.

Next up, TechHub presents Theory of Launch - A marketing workshop for tech startups and entrepreneurs with digital agency Gather & Throw.  In this exciting workshop Charlotte Hogg, MD of advertising agency, Gather and Throw, will introduce you to, and help you understand and apply the company’s ‘Theory of Launch’; a set of steps designed to successfully launch and accelerate technology based startups.

In the evening, we are delighted to welcome back Obi Felten, Director of Consumer Marketing for EMEA, Google to share her considerable experience and insight. Focusing on themes and ideas to help Start-ups and Entrepreneurs get maximum marketing value from limited resources Obi will be doing a 10-15 minute talk before opening the floor to 45-50 mins of questions (which you can submit in advance here.)

And finally, with an abundance of start-ups vying for attention and limited sources of funding available how do you make yourself stand out from the crowd and capture the imagination of those whose opinion (and cash!) really matters? On Thursday 6th Oct the workshop
Pitch Perfect will provide you with skills designed to help you promote your product, idea or service to investors and consumers.

Tickets are going fast so click on the links above to book yourself a place!

Update: Free co-working til end of August, #TechHubFriday Movie Night & our 100 mbps connection!

By Elizabeth Varley
I'm completely jealous of everyone who's sunning themselves on holiday this month, and so many TechHub members are away at the moment that we've decided to extend our free co-working offer until Friday 27th August.

Want to give TechHub a try for free? Drop Charlie a line at charlie[at]techhub.com letting us know the day you're coming in and then come along. Test out our hefty brand spanking new 100 mbps fibre data line as I'm very pleased to announce it's all in and up and running! Big fat data FTW!

We also have our second #TechHubFriday Movie Night coming up this week. We'll all be practicing our best accents for everyone's favourite line: 'My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to Die.' in readiness to enjoy the fabulously silly Princess Bride from 5pm this Friday.

So kick off the weekend early, meet some other tech peeps and finish your Friday in style @TechHub. Register now.

Lastly, we're in the process of planning out our events programme starting in September, so if you'd like to give us your opinions on event styles and subjects you like, those you don't and any ideas you have or lists of people you'd really love to hear from, please tell us!

TechHub movie night Friday 6th August 2010

By Elizabeth Varley
Where can you find movies, geeks, entrepreneurs, drinks, snacks and...er...more geeks this Friday? TechHub movie night!

This week sees the first TechHub film night, Friday 6th August from 5-7pm (so you can still go out afterwards). It's free, so knock off early, bring yourselves, any drinks and snacks you want, and if you have a favourite beanbag or cushions, bring those too.

So, what will we watch? Well, that's up to you (and we positively encourage any Twitter-based vote persuasion you may like to engage in). Cast your vote over there, to the right >>

If you'd like to come, visit our Eventbrite page to register so we get an idea of numbers.

It's summer, it's Friday (er...it will be) and there's films a-waitin'!
