Monetise those apps! Come have Brunch with BlueVia, Fri 4th March

By Tech Hubber

Come and join us for a fun discussion over coffee, tea and pastries!

This BlueVia Breakfast is among the first in a number of events TechHub will be running with our new major sponsorship partner, BlueVia, (which joins our founder partners Google and Pearson).

As well as shooting the breeze about general trends in apps and development, BlueVia will also be explaining more about its offering.

BlueVia is a new developer-oriented platform from global mobile giant Telefonica, which enables developers to tie their applications or mobile websites into APIs which can enable carrier billing, user profiling or even analytics. But BlueVia doesn't just focus on mobile apps - it can be used in conjunction with web, desktop apps and other online services.

At the breakfast the BlueVia team will be on hand to help you make the most of the platform, whether it’s through finding new business models and revenue streams for your app or opening your company up to new global markets.

So if you have a startup with an app or a developer with just an idea, you should come along to find out more.

If you have any questions about business development contact James Parton at james.parton@o2.com / @jamesparton or Elayne Checketts at Elayne.checketts@o2.com / @e_checketts.
For anything about the such API and SDK implementation or just general tech enquiries then talk to Andres Ortiz at AndresLeonardo.MartinezOrtiz@o2.com / @davilagrau.

Come to TechHubFriday Forum this Friday Feb 25

By Tech Hubber

TechHubFriday on 25th Feb will be the first in our new series TechHubFriday Forum. This one will be hosted by some very smart people from Google.
Do you have something that's challeging you at the moment? A problem that's really leaving you scratching your head? Perhaps you just really need to hear some feedback from others? Come along to TechHub, talk about what's on your mind and get some great ideas from great problem-solvers from Google and TechHub.

TechHubFriday is for technology entrepreneurs, runs from 6-8ish pm (so you can still go out afterwards, or on to the bar next door) and is free for TechHub Members and just a fiver (plus VAT - boo) for others. We keep this event to around 40 people to make sure it's a good size to get a good discussion going, so register quickly if you want to take part.

Those who want to raise something will have 3 minutes, with around 5 minutes for some rapid fire ideas and feedback fom Googlers and other entrepreneurs attending. Then it's just drinks and everyone chatting. If you'd like to seek some advice, enter some brief details in the registration form and we'll confirm with you if you have a slot, as they're limited due to time.

We'd especially like to feature questions about mobile, as Mobile World Congress iwas this month so it's on everyone's minds, plus we have some really talented mobile-focused Googlers as youor problem-solvers for this one. That said if you have other issues, they're welcome too.

Bear in mind this is a tech entrepreneur audience, not so much a developer workshop so really technical stuff might be best to follow up on later during chat.

If you'd like to bring a friend, please ask them to register here too so we know how many people are coming.

Introducing BlueVia as a new TechHub sponsor!

By Elizabeth Varley
We're really excited to announce BlueVia as TechHub's newest major sponsor. They have some great technologies available for developers and startups, with revenue-generating models built in and we're looking forward to seeing what TechHub Members and others in the tech startup community create using these new tools.

Here's the release that went out today...

TechHub and BlueVia announce collaborative partnership
Telefonica backed BlueVia to support developers

London, UK – 10th February 2011; TechHub, the space for innovative technology startups, is pleased to announce BlueVia as a new sponsor. A global developer platform from Telefonica, BlueVia joins TechHub sponsors Pearson and Google with a team spending time on-site to work closely with startups to provide insight and opportunities to the community.

Located in the heart of the ‘Silicon Roundabout’ area in Shoreditch, London, TechHub is based near technology companies such as Last.fm, Songkick and Moo. It offers desk space, meeting rooms, events and an invaluable opportunity to work with other technology startups from around the world.  It was created to support and emphasise growth of the thriving technology scene and is committed to encouraging creativity and entrepreneurship with the power of community.

“Building a culture of collaboration and co-operation can drive innovation and helps expand the potential of startups; our relationship with BlueVia brings real benefits for our members and other tech companies,” said TechHub co-founder Elizabeth Varley. “They will be joining a growing community and supporting it through their expertise in mobile technology. We’re always looking to bring together the different elements of the technology ecosystem, and with BlueVia’s network and knowledge, we’re one step closer to realising this goal.”

BlueVia is the new global developer platform from Telefonica that helps developers take apps, web services, and ideas to market. BlueVia is built on four founding principles: scale, tools, business models, and path to market. BlueVia offers ground breaking, zero risk, business models which developers can ‘mix and match’ to create multiple revenue streams. The BlueVia team, plus colleagues from O2 UK’s “Lab” will spend time working out of TechHub, hosting events at TechHub, showcasing new technologies and innovation, and providing advice to TechHub members. For in-depth interviews and further details about the partnership, please click here.

“This is an opportunity for us to be a part of a rapidly growing movement, allowing us to work closely with real innovators in the technology scene. We are committed to helping startups grow and are happy to provide access to our vast network, while in the same time learning and becoming part of their growth” said James Parton, Head of Marketing for BlueVia. “TechHub is becoming a pillar of the start-up community, and has been providing great support for the industry; by partnering with TechHub we hope to be an integral part of this growth, helping companies and the industry as a whole.”

Video partner wanted for TechHub

By Tech Hubber
Increasingly TechHub is putting on events both for TechHub Members and the wider technology community which we feel are of value.

We've hosted great speakers like Eric Ries of Lean Startups fame, government ministers talking about technology in the UK, Jimmy Wales (founder of Wikipedia) and other notable visitors and technology startup founders. In particular our public demo nights are great to give startups exposure.

Thus, we're creating content which we would like to capitalise on - sometimes in the form of live video streaming, sometimes in curated video designed for members-only viewing (perhaps instructional workshops etc).

We're therefore looking for a video partner who can help us create a set-up at TechHub which would be extremely simple to implement and allow us to control how and where the video appears, and also to create an archive for Member use.

To discuss this please email mike AT techhub dot com, thanks.

Intern at TechHub! Events & social media/comms

By Elizabeth Varley

At TechHub we're flat out planning and running great events, meeting with potential partners, taking people for tours, following up membership enquiries, working on new projects, supporting great tech companies and so much more. With the government's Tech City announcements last year and our involvement in their projects, plus the amount of press coverage we've had recently, there's some really great chances to get involved in exciting things.

This means we have opportunities for bright, enthusiastic, out-going, hard-working graduates or students with excellent English-language skills who are looking for some great experience in a fast-paced start-up. Want to immerse yourself in the business end of the tech industry? This is the place to do it.

Your contribution will be valued and we'll listen to your ideas. when you're doing a great job, we'll shout about it and make sure everyone knows about your talent.

What?
Based on-site at TechHub in London, as well as gaining fantastic experience for your own development and for your CV, you'll make excellent contacts and gain introductions in the tech and startup industries, have a reference to help in your career, get to come to some awesome events (at TechHub and elsewhere), hone your skills and have great fun (we laugh a lot!).

As a TechHub intern you might be involved in the following:
  • planning and running events (more details under Events Intern below)
  • writing for the TechHub blog, newsletters & Twitter (more details under Comms/Social Media Intern below)
  • meeting with enterprise groups and potential partners
  • planning and executing new projects like our device-testing room, international expansion, member benefits programme and accelerator programme
  • helping with admin, member communications and member management
  • generally assisting the team

TechHub Events Intern
Love live events? This is a great opportunity to get some fantastic experience for your CV and make excellent contacts, plus learn how to programme, plan and run a great event. To give you a flavour of what you might get involved in... lots of press interest, lots of government interest, events with Google and Pearson, a cool new hack style series of events, startup and hack weekends, student nights, our new 'country days' (France is coming up this Friday), events leading up to Mobile World Congress and SXSW, TechHubFriday Demo Nights, our new early-stage startups programme, TechHub Members Networking Drinks, Silicon Roundabout networking nights, masterclass days, an event for angels and a very exciting accelerator programme slated for later in the year.

Helping with TechHub's blog, Twitter account and newsletters is a brilliant opportunity to hone your skills and help keep our community engaged and in-the-know. You might get involved in...breaking news about announcements and new programmes at TechHub, spreading the word about our press coverage, making sure our members get emails chock full of important tidbits and special previews and offers, shouting about our wonderful sponsors Google and Pearson, engaging with the TechHub community and the wider tech and digital industry through Twitter (it's not all about announcements!), writing opinion pieces and blog responses to industry press, being our Facebook master/mistress, and more.

How?

If you're interested, please:

  1. email elizabeth[at]techhub.com
  2. with 'TechHub Intern Application' in the subject line of your email and include either 'Events' or 'Comms' depending on the role you're interested in.
  3. tell us why you would be great as a TechHub Intern, your skills and experience. Why should we choose you?
  4. tell us when you could start, finish, and the amount of time you have available each week
  5. attach your CV

A bit more

Please note these are unpaid internship opportunities (a stipend may be paid for travel and lunch expenses). This means that we want to make sure it's a great learning experience for you - you will not be stuck making tea all day, but will jump in and try new things.

We're also big fans of being yourself: there's no need to be super formal in your application, but we do like good English and punctuation and things like that.

So apply now! We're looking forward to hearing from you.
